Started talking to him, and what does he pull up? Fritz or Chessbase of course, showing the games of one of his son that was very similar to the current position. (there were at least 4 titled people there under 14). I ended up in the hotel lobby picking the brains of a titled prodigy's dad. I tried to time it so that I'd only show up in time trouble. I was at the UTD Fall FIDE Open as a spectator. I've added an endgame table base as well. and again, my version of fritz i've added old versions of komodo, stockfish 6, naum, and an old houdini. or try to play your move against the engine better still. It's not that the lectures themselves are automagically better, but again, if you think that someone is full of shit, or you don't see why your move doenst work, pause the dvd and turn on the engine right there and you will see the refutation or confirmation. Also, the database of even your blitz games which is automatically saved gets the full fritz functionality, so you can see for example, that if you play the caro kann for example, how often the exchange vs advance vs classical gets played against you in blitz, and the average rating of the players playing those lines.Ģ) The ability to build your own database of just your games, or filter out the bigger databases if you want to study someone else's games is just so clutch.ģ) The training dvds are better than youtube.

Some other advantages that I may have missed:ġ) when you use playchess (which i havent in a while but it does come free) the live broadcasts of events are first rate. Not sure how different it is from 14 or 15.

It's the integration of everything that makes it a useful tool. You are not paying for the engine or any one feature, it's everything integrated at once.Īnd it's true that 95% of what fritz has is available for free elsewhere. I would say fritz is worth the money which kind of goes against the grain.
